Get Windows 10 Taskbar Icon Explained

Windows 7 & Windows 8.1 users may notice a new Windows Flag icon has appeared in the taskbar on the bottom right of the screen. Get Windows 10

Since this icon first appeared on computers on the 1st of June we have been asked on many occasions in the shop “Should I click it”?.

The answer is YES.

Click the icon and follow the instructions to reserve your copy of Windows 10.

This means that from July 29th when Windows 10 is released, you have the option to upgrade your computer to the latest and final release of Microsoft’s operating system.

It Looks Like Malware!

Microsoft have placed this icon on computer screens and understandably many users are wary of clicking it and signing up to anything that they are not familiar with because of the way the icon has suddenly appeared, it is borderline malware-like!

Over 1.2 Billion Windows Users

However this is a legitimate upgrade offer that is available to qualifying computers. The reason for this “reserve” procedure being brought in 2 months prior to release does appear bizarre, but with over 1 billion Windows users worldwide, I guess that Microsoft didn’t want everyone trying to download the same thing on the same day!

What Will Happen Once Reserved

On the run up to release date once you have your copy reserved, your system will be tested for full compatibility and the install files required will be downloaded to your computer.

Don’t worry about switching on your computer on July 30th to discover that it has been wiped and upgraded! You will be prompted to install the upgrade when it is convenient to you.

What If The Icon Hasn’t Appeared On My Screen?

If you don’t see the icon yet, check for Windows Updates. Only compatible systems with the latest updates for W7 SP1 & W8.1 will see this icon.
